Crash occurred at ~6:45 EDT. I doubt an AF PAO would have anybody in the office at that hour. It would be highly unusual that a statement would be issued while the plane was returning.

Right, no argument there. But it would take time to dump fuel. That means time to contact the PAO and get assets in place for emergency landing.
