New White House Tactic: Let Bush Be Bush
reuters & nyt ^ | 4/2/06 | STAFF

George W. Bush is taking time to explain himself, open up to the public in new ways and court the U.S. Congress as he tries to breathe life into a presidency beset by sagging ratings and influence.

With a job-approval rating under 40 percent, Bush, who went to his Crawford ranch for a quiet weekend, has a long way to go. Aides acknowledge it will take a while to rebuild his image, and much will depend on the outcome of the Iraq war.

White House staffers, who have long limited the president's appearances to speeches and photo opportunities with little contact with regular people, are now inclined to let Bush be Bush.

He is talking at length. His March 21 news conference lasted nearly an hour. A Freedom House speech with questions from the audience in Washington on Wednesday went on for an hour and a half.

Bush even took questions from gray-haired retirees at a senior citizens' home recently and they asked some tough ones. More such sessions are planned.

``The president enjoys the open question-and-answer formats,'' White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. ``The more we can put him in settings where people can get a better sense of his thinking and his beliefs, the better.'' SNIP

Democrats are not impressed by the more-open Bush. ``The president can give all the speeches he wants but nothing will change the fact that his Iraq policy is wrong,'' said Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

You seem quick to assign blame, I would too if President Bush was a Dictator, he is not.

Your wrath is better spent (if you want individuals) Rockefeller, Clinton or Politicticians period, weather they be across the aisle or the just poster and pose and retreat from campaign promises or maybe Soros's money in this Country, the Governments of France, Germany, Russia, Iran.... (the list is long) outside of the Country and then there is of course the UN.

They want him hung from a tree, they want him impeached because he's outdone them. He's better than them. What the Dems took 30+ years to build, President Bush and Admin have remade in mere single digit years and into something far, far better.

What we continue to see from the Democrat Party and some posters in this forum alters between being wussified feminized citizens or the "penis" envy gang.

In short: The anti-Bush people have... "PRESIDENTIAL ENVY".

Bush will get all the blame even though the other side refuses to compromise in the slightest it seems on a guest worker program.

He gets the blame because he's a leader. A genuine leader. And all the other bucks and buckesses in the forest think they deserve to wrangle antlers with him as a proving ground for their own self-worth.

Yes, somedays, it's a hoot to read the comments from "wish I had some" posters. ;>

What you aren't going to spam this thread with your 'let's go through the numbers' post?...

By the way how would you fix this problem of illegal immigration. I agree it needs to be addressed and action taken but can you tell us how it should be done?

You mean blanket amnesty for 5 0r 6 million, no questions asked? Pulling the Marines out of Lebanon when the barracks in Beirut was hit by terrorists? Appointing O'Connor and Kennedy to the Supreme Court? Being best of best friends with Tip O'Neill? I could go on. Don't get me wrong. Loved the Gipper and voted for him twice but hey, there were problems ya know? Just a few...

It's his masculinity, just like Rush has said.

Some guys can't stand a real man. Even those who post on conservative forums......

Let Bush Be Bush

Good advice. Allows GWB to do the job he was elected for instead of continuing on where his daddy left off in trying to compete with Reagan.

I like what he did with taxes and Iraq, but the border is totally neglected. I think he was out-Foxed by Fox.

Now, now, OhioWFan, you know some folks are just more important than say you or I are. Gosh, you and I think pursuing our attackers and stopping them on their own turf was far smarter and effective than simply building a human daisy chain around the homes and locations of people whose lives are more important than yours and mine.

In the worldview of some of the Nativists, aka (Nationalists): every thread belongs us, we are the real, very most realiest of the reallyest Conservatives.. and all your threads MUST be about stopping illegals. Or. We are going to kick you, Alia and OhioWfan out of America one day, TOO! Just you watch! .... tune-in theme some from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"

Scene 2: enter stage right: Flying White Owl.

Voicever: "The Lone white owl flies at night as a superior predator. Alone, he watches the border. He, and he alone knows, the real enemy is BUSH BUSH BUSH. And so the lone white owl waits in the dark... ever scanning each and every BUSH for an opportunity to..

Deification of Reagan for the purpose of bashing Bush makes one highly suspect, tx.

Those of us who really respected Reagan, also admire President Bush. ALL of us who respect Bush, admired Reagan, but didn't expect perfection, or perfect alignment with our own ideas from him. Those who use his name to attack President Bush on a regular basis on this forum most likely never really respected Reagan as President either.

Or at least they didn't pay attention to his presidency, because as you pointed out, it wasn't perfect either.
