For teens, though, it's a tougher deal. They're dealing with peer pressure and want to shop in the stylish stores frequented by their friends. That makes it a little more difficult.

But as a parent, why would you let your child give in to peer pressure? Today it's clothing, tomorrow it's experimenting with sex and/or drugs. But, Dad, Mom, all the kids are doing it! I don't want to be different!

I quite agree with you. I think that most parents do, at least in principle. However, parents get worn down by their kids sometimes, and give in. Thus has it always been.
