We'll see if the fashion industry listens. They appear to have complied whole-heartedly with my demand for "Booty-licious Turpetude".

There are lots of sources of modest clothing on the web and through mail order. A search for "modest clothing" brings up lots of results.
Now...how to get teenagers into such clothing...there's the rub.

How refreshing -- a Catholic organization speaks out for modesty in dress!

Very nice post, thank you.
Before any cathlolic bashing begins, just let me say that it's nice to read common sense for a change. Young women really don't have to dress like common street hookers to draw attention to themselves. Class and sophistication always was and always will be more alluring.

Class and sophistication always was and always will be more alluring.Nice try...if this was true, then there would not be a need for a call for more modest clothing....

I completely support this. It's very hard to buy clothing for my daughters.
But, of course, the DUmmies will see this as an effort to put women in Burkhas and enslave them, perhaps taking away their ability to vote as a next step.

That's easy, offer it in stores! I have long held the view that fashion, even blue jeans, is not flattering to women now. The jeans are cut for men and boys, do not flatter a woman or girl. Dresses and tops resemble lingerie not blouses or shirts. I haven't bought new clothes in years because fashion is so ugly.
Junior fashion for girls and smaller framed women is worst of all. All you see now is hippy clothing. While some of the skirts are attractive, the jagged hemlines are not.
If the fashion industry starts making them, they will sell them. Whether or not a girl will admit it, all girls like to look pretty. Fashion industry likes to dictate what that means.

You have put your finger on the problem. If someone wants to buy something, our capitalist society will supply it.

They look like they're ready to burst forth from chrysalides.

I'm all for modest and conservative clothing. When you pick up the weenkend section of your newspapers, the fashions are horribly sloppy, show way too much skin, and makes both adult women and girls look like they're residing in a third world country. Most of the fashions border on making females look like prostitutes. We need more tailored, even English classic styles back. Sooner the better.

That Nebraska diocese is a big picture group. What they are reacting to is the TV culture on cable, Satellite, the movies and network TV. They're just trying to show a little leadership and aren't afraid say so.

To be fair, modesty in dress has almost nothing at all to do with pedophiles and gays in their own ranks. For example, they can support pedophiles and gays if they decide to dress modestly.
It doesn't make them hypocrites. It may make them something else, though. :-)

I guess it depends on what type of man a woman wants to "allure".
