I have some letters from sailors on ships, one who was in the invasion of the Mariana Islands, and another one from Hiroshima after the bomb and about Tojo's hospitalization. Have a whole box of them, but don't have time to transcribe them all and won't part with them on loan. Many of them are very mundate; I was struck with the number of sailors at Ft. Sheridan? (near Chicago) who were in bed sick from their shots.
One of particular interest which I would be willing to transcribe for you (if I don't have to reread every letter) is dated May 1941 where a sailor writes about painting the ship black (can't understand why), and going out on night maneuvers with the lights out from Pearl Harbor.
Thanks, but I have something else in mind. I actually need to talk to someone, preferably, someone fairly lucid with a good memory.
Thanks, though.
