Poor people are just more likely to be caught. Criminal intent, motive, and action have psychological roots not closely tied to financial status. A poor criminal might shoplift. A rich criminal might pad their expense account.

Not true. There are motives besides need, but need remains a major one. Although the type of crime will certainly differ. However the original poster was presumably talking about bluecollar crime, since it's something you can see while driving though the barrio.

Poor people are just more likely to be caught.

And how are you getting data for crimes which weren't detected?
