Seems like there is lots of talent out there, they could have just hired an average Freeper for above average commentary.

Nope. I do a lot of reading, and check out a lot of blogs, but I'd never heard of this guy. If he is a Conservative, he's one with absolutely no pedigree or name recognition as a writer. Just the kind of guy you'd expect the WaPo to hire.
