Slain Minister's Wife to Be Charged With Murder Friday, March 24, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The wife of a Tennessee pastor found shot dead in his house Wednesday will face first-degree murder charges, authorities announced Friday.

Mary Winklerwas found Thursday night with the couple's three daughters in Orange Beach, Ala., about 400 miles south of their home in Selmer.

Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said she was interviewed during the night and the charges were being prepared.

"We've interviewed her and she was cooperative," said Jennifer Johnson of the TBI, adding that once a warrant with the charges was drawn up, extradition proceedings would begin to have her returned to Tennessee.

Matthew Winkler was found shot to death in the bedroom of his parsonage Wednesday by church members who began searching for him after he failed to show up at an evening event at Selmer's Church of Christ.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but Winkler's wife and children — Breanna, 1; Mary Alice, 6; and Patricia, 8 — were gone.

Right now there's absolutely no evidence of what her motive was and there are no news reports giving any solid facts. Hence, aside from the pleasures of mental masturbation, there's no reason at all to speculate on what caused her to do it.

It is noteworthy that she didn't hurt the children, and she took them with her. Time will tell what happened and why.

If he was harming one of the kids, I think I would have taken them to a physician/hospital?

Well, when we had our grandchildren summer before last, their mother, my son's ex, had made them a CD with a song from the movie, "Chicago".

He had it coming
He had it coming
He only had himself to blame
If you'd have been there
If you'd have seen it
I betcha you would have done the same!

I always wondered if it wasn't some kind of hint.

It's a convenient [post-partum depression] defense, since they had a small one.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but post-partum depression is a real disease that can be overlooked or the woman can feel ashamed to ask for help. If she does get help, doctors hand out anti-depressants like candy. AD drugs often cause changes in personality that lead to violent behavior. I've seen it happen personally (from afar) several times. I know of a father who killed his daughters, a mother who killed her children and a woman who walked into the lake and drowned herself all on anti-depressants. We are too trusting of doctors and drugs, and afraid to speak up if we are having strange side effects. How do you tell the side effects from the depression?

Mary Winkler will pay for this crime if she committed it, and she should, but if depression and/or drug treatment percipitated her behavior, I now have one more reason to tell my doctor lock me away rather than give me anti-depressants if I ever need them.

she caught him doinmg something horrible to one of the children...

....after looking at the family picture and seeing how unresponsive (sad) the middle girl and the baby were, plus the artificial smile on the oldest daughter, I suspected the same thing.

I was an abused child myself.

Fox is reporting the wife has agreed to return to TN to face the charges. Not fighting extradition. Waiting for PC to begin.

But don't you know, only men kill because they are evil and want to kill. Women only kill because their husband is an adulterer or child molester. It's always the evil man's fault.

Absolutely pathetic. This man was shot in the back, his wife has been charged with 1st degree murder, that is premeditated murder. No evidence at all that he was abusive or a philanderer, unless you listen to some on here who've already acquitted his wife and blame him for his own death.

So was I, SweetCaroline, but we must be careful not to see everything as a nail, just because we were hammered. (messing with that metaphor, I guess)

But, family photos tell way more than most realize.

Exactly, and Fox News is following the same path.

By the way, the husband's parents are asking for custody of the 3 children.

Actually, libstripper. WE are doing what we've always done.."brain storming" on these cases.

The biggest concern I have with this case, is that we need to find out why a precious Mother of three, the pillar of the community, would feel the need to blow her husband away..

There WAS a reason...

BTW, I am thinking that she shot him in the BACK, because when she confronted him with the gun, he started to walk out. So she shot him then.

Another article said she had rented a condo on the beach, but hadn't stayed there?

There are not a large number of incidents, But there are some. Perhaps, about the same frequency as the general population. For an example of some religious groups attitude towards women, we should examine the attitude of the Methodist Church about women and rape. The Methodist Church took the official position that a woman has the duty to submit to rape, instead of doing something that might harm her assailant.

For an example of a minister that has engaged in habitual domestic abuse Go here

There is a lot of reading, but it does mention how Phelps knocked his wife down the stairs, breaking her arm. It also mentions how Phelps beat his children with a mattock handle (I consider that Asault Wth a Deadly Weapon). There is radiographic evidence of the injuries suffered by the boys, which supports the allegation that Phelps beat them.

Fox said press conference was at 10:30. I wonder if they thought it was 10:30 Eastern or Central?

No flames from me -- I'm pretty sure there will be something "extenuating" in the case.
