"If you understood the political realities of the situation you would understand a large segment of the base will not vote for McCain ensuring a Democrat wins election."

You broke the code...

FR is probably the most conservative site in the country. If a candidate can't get 50% support on this site, he/she sure as he!! isn't going to get 50% in the elections.

FreeRepublic took a poll about McCain awhile back. he couldn't get more than 50%, if even that. Everyone else Jim ran as a possibility had comfortable support.

Free Republic Opinion Poll: How would you vote if it's Hillary vs McCain in 2008?

Composite Opinion
McCain 48.4% 1,474
Third party 27.0% 821
Sit it out 10.1% 308
Undecided/pass 9.9% 300
Hillary 4.7% 142
100.1% 3,045

Member Opinion
McCain 47.7% 1,037
Third party 27.6% 600
Undecided/pass 11.4% 248
Sit it out 10.9% 237
Hillary 2.4% 52
100.0% 2,174

Non-Member Opinion
McCain 50.2% 437
Third party 25.4% 221
Hillary 10.3% 90
Sit it out 8.2% 71
Undecided/pass 6.0% 52
100.1% 871

Tancredo, Condi and Rudy got over 70% I believe.

In the recent FR poll, McCain didn't break 5% when given more selections to choose from. Others got in the teens and 20%. If any Republican hopes to win with Indy/Dem support they still need to do better than 50% among the GOP base.

That's preposterous.

This site is in no way, shape, or form representative of the GOP; in fact, just the opposite.

2006 CPAC Poll:

22% Allen
20% McCain
19% Giuliani
18% Rice
11% Allen, Frist, McCain
4% Owens, Romney, Santorum
5% Gingrich
2% Pataki
1% Hagel, Huckabee, Pawlenty, Santorum
0% Barbour
