Does this have anything to do with the possibility that websites could end up falling under the same restrictions that radio and TV do?

Yep. FR might facing a shut down for a couple months during an election year. Unless we want to start exchanging recipes.

Well, good!

How do you spell treason?

ABC NEWS

"The president has broken the law and, in some way, he must be held accountable," Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., told The Associated Press in an interview.

"This is bad. I did not know there was a McCain Fiengold threat to Free Republic. Maybe I need some education - does the act effect more than political advertising?"

There have been some threads recently addressing interpretations by certain portions of government that sites such as this may violate CFR.

As I say in my profile, "So be it". And while her articles aren't allowed on FR anymore, I have a quote from Clare Wolfe that apppears to be more pertinent as time passes:

"Before their thunder roars, there is a period of anticipation, in which more occurs than the literal minded tyrant can ever understand. A few overt acts of sedition shatter the heavy peace. But the greater force, unrecognized, rolls forward in near silence, as millions of individuals quietly withdraw their consent from the state. The pundits call it apathy. They could not be more wrong."

Those who seek to silence or crush voices of dissent are very much like those who attempt to keep a handful of sand from slipping through their fingers.
McCain and his fellow travellers will discover, in time, that this is a time tested reality they cannot ignore nor legislate away.

This is probably the first time for me to disagree with you.

McCain votes conservative most of the time.
Mccain won't sell the USA down the river like the Clintons.
McCain does know about the military and does respect the men and women serving (unlike the Clintons).

For the most part, when the chips are down, McCain is with us.

McCain Feingold was bad legislation, but if that is the worst thing a politician does, it is not that bad.

Hillary care was really bad.

I will not support McCain in the primaries, but if he wins the nomination, I will support him in the general.

"Your McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform legislation is a treasonous act."

President Bush's signature on this unconstitutional piece of legislation is most ....unfortunate.

Wasn't the FEC suppose to rule on that soon?

Current move in the courts to extend McCain Feingold "60 day until elections" activities to the internet.

If the anti-1st amendment/pro McFeingold people win the democrats will be gunning for this site and I would assume the republicans will be gunning for Kos, DU etc.

The funny thing is that over at DU they think this is all being done by the Bush Admin. when it is their hero Feingold.

another idea:

"It's called the Contract with America: Renewed and it was produced by Representatives Mike Pence and Jeb Hensarling of the Republican Study Committee.

Because the Contract with America: Renewed actually KEEPS the promises the Republican majority made to grassroots conservatives like you and me over a decade ago -- and advances a bold conservative agenda!

You would think that Republican Members of Congress would be running over each other to be among the first to sign on to a legislative agenda that harkens back to the original Contract with America of 1994 that gave them control of Congress for the first time in over 40 years!

Not so! Even though the Contract with America: Renewed has over 100 Congressmen behind it, Washington gossip indicates that Congressman Pence was TOLD outright that the Contract with America: Renewed would be marked "DEAD ON ARRIVAL!"

I recieived this from CFIF website news alerts. I love Pence, and if he is one of the producers, it has to be great.

We seem to be against the grain here but those are my thoughts too. I won't vote for the dem or third party candidate.

That is what I am afraid of...and I am sure Jim is also.

We need to get a list of any/all Congressweinies that vote to make that happen.

In fact, I would venture that even the lefty sites would rebel with us.

John McCain, you treasonous bastard, I challenge you or any of your traitorous cohorts to find even one thread, one post, one paragraph, one sentence or even one lousy word posted to this web site that is not fully protected by the First Amendment!

Well said. But maybe McCain would like it in Spanish, since he is so open-border friendly.
