I'm not surprised. Did you happen to see if the charges were dropped with or without prejudice?

Didn't notice... my guess is that the prosecution wanted to drop on the same day the judge dismissed the plea so that the prosecution could clearly tie the two events together i.e. it was the judges fault, not ours.

They are always without prejudice unless jeopardy has attached. In most jurisdictions that's when opening statement is made.
