French President Jacques Chirac on Monday urged the international community to avoid punishing the Palestinians even if Hamas offers no clear, quick responses to demands that it renounce violence and recognize Israel.
Chirac spoke after talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II, who said the region could plunge into a decade or more of violence if the Palestinians do not have their own state within two years.
The meeting with the king reflected Chirac's long-standing efforts to court Arab countries and project himself as a force of moderation between the West and the Muslim world.
"We must find a way to pursue European aid to the Palestinian people ... without it being sent where it shouldn't be," Chirac said.

Oh they've given a clear quick response alright. They have stated emphatically that they will continue to do anything and everything in their power to wipe Israel off the map

And carrying the tradition far into the future. Until they can get a grip on their own country, maybe they should stay out of international affairs.

French President Jacques Chirac on Monday urged the international community to avoid punishing the Palestinians even if Hamas offers no clear, quick responses to demands that it renounce violence and recognize Israel.
Translation: We must continue to do our part and they must continue to do nothing.
There is no more seperation between Hamas and the palestinian people. Their election showed the world quite clearly that Hamas' stated positions are backed by the majority of voters. Chiraq is still on the road claiming that Hamas is a minority and that their positions do not reflect those of the masses. (even if he doesn't say so directly).
If the Pals want international aid then they must understand that the international community will have no part of aiding Hamas. Withholding aid from Hamas isn't undue collective punishment of innocent Pals. Indeed, it is a policy formed in reaction to the policy set forth by Hamas and its supporters. Pals are begining to find out that with democracy comes responsibility. They voted and now they must deal with the choice they made. That is for them to do, not everyone else.
I accept the Pals election and the consequences of that choice. Maybe, just maybe, it is time they accept it too.

Oh, if that were true. Sadly, it looks like the Europeans, lead by Chirac, are begining to cave. They will twist and bend and justify however they have to in order to get aid to Hamas. Just watch.

From another article I posted earlier:
"France is no stranger to anti-Semitism. Thousands of French Jews vanished in Nazi death camps with hardly a murmur of protest from their Christian countrymen. Hatred of Jews is the subtext of the shrill ultranationalism that still has a following among white French. Meanwhile, the past decade has seen a surge in ''ideological" anti-Semitism among Muslim immigrants -- based on opposition to Israel and support for the Palestinian cause, but often expressed with swastikas spray-painted on synagogues or desecration of Jewish graveyards."

I am kind of wondering how aid to Hamas will fit in with the Bush Doctrine.......

"The meeting with the king reflected Chirac's long-standing efforts to court Arab countries and project himself as a force of moderation between the West and the Muslim world."
The Muslim world: "Death to Israel!!!"
The West, i.e., the USA: "Israel has a right to exist, but must give up all or most of the territory acquired during previous defensive wars, and abandon settlements constructed in those areas."
Now, what about the West's postion is so immoderate that it needs to be brokered by Chirac? Where is the middle ground between these two "extreme" positions?

Please. There is little separation between the French government and the avowed Jew killers of today, and the French government and the avowed Jew killers of WW11.
It was nor the Arabs who wiped Jewry off of the face of Eurasia.
It was the Europeans. Nothing has changed, except now the bigotry is expressed in back rooms.
