Mel Gibson's newest film will be titled Apocalypto and is billed as an action/adventure film set 600 years ago, prior to the 16th-century Spanish conquest of Mexico and Central America.

IMDb gives a short description that details it as "where a man goes on a perilous journey to save his idyllic world."

And some of those that praised Gibson's epic "The Passion of the Christ" may take pause in how he describes this film by slamming the president.

I'll take President Bush and his 'guys' anyday over that Iranian President and his 'guys'.

Some, like abortion, the church agrees with Bush.

Incorrect. Bush believes that direct abortion of conceptions that result from rape and incest is AOK. The Church does not. The only abortions that are permissable under Catholic teaching, therapeutic, are those cases in which the life of the mother is at risk.

If the abortion follows as a foreseen but not intended or willed but merely tolerated consequence of a therapeutic act essential for the mother's health, this is morally legitimate. The abortion in this case is the indirect result of an act which is not in itself abortive.[273]

If I read it correctly, Mel Gibson never said he disliked Bush. It just gave the idea that he disagrees with him on some issues. I am afraid that if you disagree with President Bush on anything, people will decide to throw your beaten carcass to the wolves and deride you as a "typical hollywood liberal" or "rino" when your position may be the more conservative than President Bush's. I love President Bush but not everything he does. Does that make me a RINO or a liberal-lite? Without even knowing our area of disagreement or the reason for the disagreement, many would say yes, that I'm the liberal. I think that is very sad.

National Ledger isn't on the must excerpt list.

Mel Gibson Slams Bush in Interview about New Film 'Apocalypto'

By CK Rairden
Mar 20, 2006

Mel Gibson's newest film will be titled Apocalypto and is billed as an action/adventure film set 600 years ago, prior to the 16th-century Spanish conquest of Mexico and Central America.

IMDb gives a short description that details it as "where a man goes on a perilous journey to save his idyllic world."

And some of those that praised Gibson's epic "The Passion of the Christ" may take pause in how he describes this film by slamming the president. According to 'Time Magazine' Gibson, who insists ideology matters less to him than stories of "penitential hardship" like his Oscar-winning Braveheart, gives this account:

"The fearmongering we depict in this film reminds me a little of President Bush and his guys."

That's a pretty hard dig at President Bush. Is he trying to stir up controversy to sell another film? Perhaps.

It worked so well with 'Passion' who can blame him.

But Variety reports that Gibson wrote the script and will direct "Apocalypto," which, sources say, is not religious in theme. So - this may just be what Gibson believes at this time.

One can expect that interviewers that quiz Mel on this film, if he sticks with his premise that 'President Bush and his guys are nothing more than fearmongers,' will treat Gibson with a bit more respect than they did when they dubbed "Passion" as pornography.

He will go from goat to hero for many with one slam on President Bush.

But Gibson is unpredictable - so it should be interesting to see how it plays out once the full blown promotion of the film begins.

"A little throw away remark, annoying but not significant, it sure isn't enowgh to put me on jihad against Mel Gibson."

Exactly my thought. Plus, we don't know what context he was saying it in or whether he was smiling when he said it. It could easily have been Mel being sarcastic with a libbie interviewer. I see no reason to get worked up over this.

"where a man goes on a perilous journey to save his idyllic world."

That's all I need to know. Won't be seeing this crock. There was nothing idyllic about pre Columbian America. Liberal BS

Why on earth is he slamming the people who supported him?

He doesn't like Bush. He never liked Bush. He thinks he's part of a global conspiracy to usher in a one-world government.
