The paper ought to be discussed on merits.

It's an opinion piece. It has motives behind it, above and beyond the words on paper. Its "merits" are inseparable from its agenda.

Duke would probably approve of the multiplication table, too, and his opinion would have no bearing on the table, either.

This has nothing to do with objective mathematical formulae - the topic at issue is fraught with moral and philosophic implications.

Motives and interpretations could be imputed [like they used to be in the cases of "anti-soviet propaganda"], and it is not a route any self-respecting human ought to take. The only way to consider it is on merits, aside of what one could think of "motivations" etc.
