Allard's linking of senator, terror "out of bounds"
The Denver Post ^ | 3/16/06 | Anne C. Mulkern

Activist groups, bloggers and Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean on Wednesday castigated Sen. Wayne Allard for saying that another senator sides with terrorists.

In an interview first broadcast Monday, Allard told Denver radio station KOA-AM reporter Roger Hudson that Sen. Russ Fein gold, D-Wis., "has time and time again taken on the side of the terrorists that we're dealing with in this conflict."

Allard, R-Colo., made the comment when asked his thoughts on Feingold's introducing a resolution in Congress to censure President Bush because of the domestic wiretapping program by the National Security Agency. Feingold's proposal has not received any support in the Senate.

"It is completely out of bounds to suggest that anyone demanding accountability is siding with terrorists," Dean wrote to people on the Democratic Party e-mail list.

And ProgressNowAction.org, a Colorado liberal website, called on Allard to apologize, calling his remark "despicable."

Allard on Wednesday told The Denver Post that Feingold is "becoming more and more extreme in his positions. The whole issue is (that) what he's proposed in trying to censure the president is unconstitutional. It's never been done before. Maybe one time before."

Censure is a congressional reprimand of a president. Andrew Jackson was censured in 1834, the only time it has happened.

Allard declined to answer other questions about the matter, saying he was late for a hearing and would talk later. He could not be reached later in the day, but his office re-released a statement it had given Tuesday to a liberal radio program.

"I have tremendous respect for and share Senator Feingold's determination to protect the First Amendment rights of every U.S. citizen," the statement reads in part. "However, in case of the NSA's surveillance of terrorists, I think Senator Feingold is barking up the wrong tree. We should be looking for new ways to better track and apprehend terrorists, not punishing the president for fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities."

Allard did not address the statement he made about Feingold siding with terrorists.

"Senator Allard's comments were unfortunate," Feingold said in a statement Wednesday. "Supporters of the illegal domestic- spying program know they don't have a legal leg to stand on, so they are reduced to questioning the patriotism of those who point out the simple truth that the president is breaking the law."

That's my senator! I'm so proud of him--he's a true conservative. He's also a veterinarian, and his campaign slogan when he first ran for the senate was "Send a Veterinarian to Congress". Nice change from all the lawyers there.

Feingold should be duly changed, tried, convicted, sentenced and executed imprisoned for treason, in a time of war, IMO. So should tens and hundreds of thousands of others of "The Enemy Within".

Lincoln, FDR would have done it, in their era. And to an extent, they did. Sadly, it won't happen today. Too much lib-dem, PC-sewage under the bridge.

I agree. About time someone told it like it is.... Let's support him so he doesn't retract or apologize.

The way they throw the word domestic around it looks like they should be on SNL with Kevin Nealon.

I think Senator Allard (domestic) should apologize (domestic) for his inflamatory (domestic) remarks about Senator Feingold (domestic) and his obvious (domestic) concerns over the (domestic) domestic (domestic) spying program.

Howard Dean talking about what is "out of bounds"? Wow. How is Allard wrong when he points out Feingold is siding with the terrorists privacy rights? They may not like his phrasing, but it's still fundamentally true.

Yeah, don't do that. I hate when that happens. :)
The way Dean gets unhinged does remind me that he has the personality that can justify any of his decisions.

He's not used to opposition, that's very clear in the People's Democratic Republic of Vermont.

So bring it mofos. I want to see them take their illegal claim of the terrorists eavesdropping to Court and PROVE it's illegal.

It isn't illegal until you prove otherwise. So go on Feingold, bring it.

Telling the truth is out of bounds?

Oh, wait a minute. That seems to be the only crime left in this country these days.

Dean and Feingold are posturing. That's ALL they are doing.

Are you saying that Feingold is "demanding accountability" rather than "posturing?"
