>> a medical examiner determined a boy was suffocated by ammonia-wielding guards

Are they saying that the guards actually held a bottle of ammonia under Martin's nose? Or is it just that the reporter has never heard of smelling salts? (= Ammonium carbonate.) I suppose it doesn't make much difference. The autopsy said "manual" closure of his mouth. Iow, they held his mouth shut and made him breathe ammonia fumes. Whether it was from smelling salts or straight from an ammonia bottle, that would kill him -- quickly, I suspect.

Seems it was a regular activity in handling the kids.

In the caught-on-tape manhandling, Martin appeared to do little to resist when a group of guards kneed, punched, wrestled and pressure-pointed him. The guards tried to revive the rubber-legged boy by shoving ammonia capsules in his face -- a practice that another boy from the boot camp said was common.

The sheriff deputies shoved the pellets into Martin's nose which blocked off his nose passageway. Then, they covered his mouth. He had no airways and the only thing the sheriff deputies succeeded in doing was that the ammonia made it down to Martin's throat and lungs which suffocated him. We treat pregnant pigs in the Fla constitution better than we treat human beings down in Floridaeeiieeiioo.

Yee haw. Let's hear it for Florida's leaders of doom.
