"For some strange reason that day, I was just taking the covers off, and then she hit the floor," he said.

According to the manufactured police report, he was awakened when he heard a 'thud'.

Who is lying, Michael, the police, or both?

Those little details add up. Was he already awake (several versions of his stories) or awakened by the "thud"?

It's probably all poppycock. Something quite different occurred. The question is, do his false accounts give us any hints?

Mark Fuhrman, in his book, put the different stories of the events side by side and concluded that Schiavo had seen Terri fall -- which he did not state in any account. I thought it was an interesting take, coming from a trained criminal investigator. The next question is, why didn't he ever say "I saw her fall down" or something like it?

What is threatening to him in saying he saw her fall? It invites all sorts of unwelcome follow-up questions. Where exactly was she standing? How did she fall? Did she keel over? Did she try to grab anything to break her fall? Did she hit her head? Did she slump to her knees? Did she say anything? Did she make any noises? Did she move after she fell? Try to crawl, try to stand? What did YOU do next?

It always struck me that Terri's failure to make any sounds of distress -- words, groans, a scream -- especially needs explaining.
