I received today a pre-first edition, bound galley of Ronald Kessler's Laura Bush: An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady. This bit from the prologue will warm your heart!

"Just today," [Andy] Card said, "there was a very touching moment. The president was getting ready to go off in the helicopter to Kentucky to talk about Social Security reform. He had had a meeting with members of the House on Social Security reform measures. He came out of the cabinet room. The helicopter had landed. People were getting on their coats to run off to the helicopter."

Karen Keller, Bush's personal secretary, ran outside.

"The first lady is calling for you," she said.

"Is it an emergency?" Bush asked.

"I don't think it's an emergency, but she'd like to talk with you before you leave," Keller said.

"He goes back into the Oval Office and calls her on the phone," Card said. After a minute he opened the door to the Oval Office and looked out with a smile on his face.

"That was great," Bush said to his chief of staff. "She was just calling to tell me she loves me."

Definitely the schedule of a person who has "only his own laziness to blame" that his message doesn't get out, according to Dick Morris. The leftist MSM is really good at hiding all the postives activities of this good man. I think that only those of us lucky enough to read this thread every day know of his incredible work.

Yes, I do believe his faith buoys him and keeps that joy in his heart that lightens his countenance, and all of the prayers must help. I am sure Laura happily does HER part.

And, who wouldn't be filled with youthful joy around Barney??
