A wedge tornado is a tornado that is large...sometimes 1/2 miles wide or larger.

There's no official definition, but to chasers I think they've generally defined one as one that's wider than it is tall.

It is so wide that by looking at it, it is difficult to identify as a tornado.
In the 1900' there is one reported to have been over a 1/2 mile wide, that hit Ohio. Hundreds were killed.
