Dear SDGOP,

"Is ru-486 the morning after pill?"

No, it's not.

The "morning after pill" is a high-dose contraceptive that sometimes prevents conception, and sometimes prevents the zygote from implanting in the woman's uterine lining. Thus, sometimes its effect is contraceptive, sometimes its effect is abortifacient. The morning after pill only works for a short time after sexual activity.

RU-486, on the other hand, is just a plain old chemical abortion. RU-486 can be used for a couple of months into pregnancy.
