The port deal debacle has also proven that Dubai possesses a broader mind than the US when it comes to welcoming and promoting investments and that its openness is genuine and not decided by race or creed.
Uh, then Israel is welcome in Dubai?

I just don't understand why they would be so upset?
I thought our allies enjoyed being tarred and feathered as head chopping Muslim maniacs coming to kill our children?!
Plus, everyone knows they not only look alike but they all act alike too .....

How much do you think a full page ad or half page ad in the Gulf weekly would cost. I am thinking of organizing a half page or full page ad apologizing for our Congress's conduct and having as many names of americans I can get on it

All manner of criticism is due us. This was not our finest moment. Incipient stupidity by the American electorate was catapaulted by Democrat demogoguery and certain Republican cowards. The only winner in the US was George Bush. He will not get any credit.
This was a perfect winner for the Democrats. By opposing the Dubai port deal they could appeal to base American xenophobia, thereby parading their understanding of patriotism, and create an international maelstrom for Bush.
It is likely that time elapsed between now and elections will create a clearer view. This, coupled with the inevitable fallout from giving a raw deal to an important ally, should produce a few more Republican seats in each branch of Congress.
Once again the Democrats have accepted long-term loss for short-term gain.

nationalist sentiments that seem to be inexorably on the rise...Dubai possesses a broader mind than the US ...it too can cancel deals.... the flap over the ports ... unwarranted hostility ... US assets less attractive...
Blah blah blah.

"nationalist sentiments that seem to be inexorably on the rise" That darned pesky 'Patriotism', and self-preservation instinct getting in the way again...
Another American-bashing article from someone overseas. (yawn).

Actually, what we see is a triumph of economic patriotism over the loathsome free traitors.
Perhaps this represents a turning point, one which will see free traitin' expunged.

I wish that every congressman who fought this deal would be forced to read this editorial. Thanks for posting it. Last week I heard James Carafano (Dr. James Carafano Senior Research Fellow, Defense and Homeland Security, Heritage Foundation) say that he was asked to testify before the congressional committee that stampeded this deal. He said that only the chairman was in the room when he and two others who were in favor of DPW started their presentations, so they were asked to submit their reports for the Congressional Record, and no questions were asked of them.
I did not have a very high opinion of congressmen in general, but after this debacle I am just sick, thinking about them.
I believe that they truly have no knowledge of international shipping at all. Now they are talking like they are going to set up something like our lovely airport security in our ports. They don't even see that airport security happens at the loading end, not the offloading end.

The lesson is that the left has recognized PROFILING as a valuable tool in the WOT. Not that they would ever admit it, or implement it on a wide scale, other than solely for their political gains, which is exactly what they did with Dubai/UAE.
Yipee! No more searching the obvious Amish family in the airports, nor frisking down little pigtailed 5 year old girls, and granny can stay seated in her wheelchair. And the tougher than nails soldier with the paratrooper high and tight, won't have to talk off his shoes to show that he is not a shoe bomber, because our federal government is finally going to go after the people that would do us the most harm... the muzzie terrorists.
Happy days are here again...

To think there will be some Americans that will believe the filth that spews from this satan gives my stomach a churn.
What a lying dog turd. He believes Americans are nothing more than a gaggle of ignorant aholes. He thinks we're too ill informed to know how his nation denies and seeks the destruction of Israel...and how no one with an Israeli passport or a passport that dares to bare an Israeli stamp on it can step foot upon the shores of his terrorist haven. (not that any of right mind would want to)

Has Dubai ever publicly denounced terrorism, especially that done by Muslims and Palestinians?
