Not at any point in the 1940's. He didn't have a navy able to do the job with the RN extant. Starve it out, perhaps, amphibious assault, not likely.

Don't forget we were in it from 39. On our own. Appreciate you got there eventually. You just kind of took your time. In the meantime we stood alone and fought him off. Frankly, if the Russians hadn't have tied him up on the East we would have been beaten before you guys agreed the Nazi's were worth spilling any American blood for. Sad to say Stalin saved us before Uncle Sam.

We were your aircraft carrier that was kind of hard to sink. He wouldn't have had to. U-boats would have effectively shut down import and he could have simply isolated them and bombed and starved them into submission.

The famed Battle of Britain took place before America got into the war. Germany's invasion of England was to be called Operation Sealion. It was to take place after Germany could establish air superiority over England, which they couldn't do, so Hitler postponed the invasion indefinitely.

So the British prevented the invasion on pretty much their own.
