Sometimes my conspiratorial side gets the best of me, but with Tony [rightfully] criticizing the WH communications people, is it not odd that they schedule a Presidential press conference at the same time as Tony's show?

[Especially since this is not the best time to reach a broader TV audience.]

Nah... the Pres appreciates the talk show hosts. Maybe too much. Its kinda' like political welfare where he's gotten lazy and unproductive because he is used to having 'someone else do it'.

It would be bad, but I am also one of those who think that if the Pres spent all his time responding to 'critics' it would severely hinder his agenda.

Its a balancing act though, have to respond enough to protect the policy, but not enough that your neglect advancing anything.

The problem here is Bush relied on his 'usual' PR people, and 2/3rds were outraged the first few days... thats down to 1/3rd now that people are better informed, and much of the remaining are just stuck out on a limb, but the damage was done.

At the same time you have the media doing what they usually do... misinforming and hyping. You have the democrats doing what they usually do... politically exploiting it and blaming bush. You have the republicans doing what they usually do... run and hide and seek the shelter of the MSM and pollsters.

So its an uphill battle back, and the whole 45day review that lasted 6, and the appending to defense spending bills and all that is just an extra KICK IN THE GROIN, that makes me want to puke.

To bad.. I really liked Peter King, especially after he SMACKED DOWN Chrissy matthews on Katrina coverage. Now I have LESS THAN zero respect for the puke.

You want to know what is worse?

Yesterday in the Senate, one of the reasons given for needing Congressional oversight on this deal...which was legally done under the CFIUS law, in secret, that congress passed in 1988, was that "times have changed, we had 9/11"!!

Okay, now go back a few weeks...and Congress was all up in arms that President Bush had the NSA progam using warrantless wiretapps on foreign calls...and sometimes did not follow FISA rules (supposedly)...

When President Bush said that FISA was written in 1978, and times have changed, we had 9/11...Congress said, "Nope, not good enough"...

So...see, Congress keeps changing the rules for President Bush...but makes up their own rules as they go along, for themselves.
