I hope Commander, Fifth Fleet has some suitably sailor-like language for expressing his opinion of Congress, now that his ships have to go to Diego Garcia or Guam for maintenance and R&R.

I don't see this happening. The Fifth Fleet is a shield for Dubai vis a vis Iran.

Re #127 - Does not Israel have a port or two that could possibly host a USN Fleet as well as Dubai?

Or would that "offend" our Islammic "Allies" too much to be acceptable?
Would they all turn on us if we tried it?

Just wondering.

This whole thing about reprisal by Dubai is way off the mark IMHO. Take a look at a map and you will see Iran right across the Strait of Hormuz from the UAE. Every nation on the Arabian Peninsula has a vested interest in keeping the USA happy. I expect some SMALL retaliation but nothing big.
The threat of Iran and our protrection is very important to the UAE. This whole thing is blown way out of proportion.
