The US is forced to act rather than let Israel do it. It was the same in Gulf War 1 and Gulf War 2. Whatever it takes, Israel must not get involved.

Gulf War 1 was fought to free Kuwait and as a result of threats against the USA. Gulf War 2 was the result of the 9/11 attack and of Saddam having continued to threaten the USA for over a decade (and more importantly, for our strategic establishment of forces in the middle of the Middle East). And Israel did destroy an Iraqi nuclear installation.

Also, Israel is already involved in Iran (most of the intel missions) and will most likely be more involved in the near future (re. enormous expenditures for materiel already made).
