Tires and wheels are "the thing" now in my neck of the woods. Parents have been known to shell out $2500 for the suspension lift just so 35 x 12.50's with 20" wheels (another $2500) will fit under the truck. Most kids' trucks I see these days are outfitted with all sorts and combinations of these oddities. ;-)

Same here. My son has $1400 dollar rims and $800 worth of "bicycle" tires on his Civic. However, they were paid for out of his pocket, not mine.

I do enjoy rubbing in the fact that the original tires are still on my F-150, and only 1/3 way worn, while he is already getting ready to buy his third set of tires. He has also had to replace on rim that bent when he "curb-checked" while parking.
