"I'll bet there are in your area, too. You just don't know them, so you play the stereotype game. How moronic a thing to say."

I have never known, seen, or heard of a white person with the last name Washington or Jefferson outside of the founders. If it is moronic for me to tell what I know, then I am indeed moronic. If I did miss a white person or two with those names, the many, many black people I have come across with those last names should at least satisfy the "predominantly black surname" arguement.

There is absoloutely nothing wrong with pointing this out. What "stereotype" are you talking about? I never stereotyped anyone. I simply said I've never known any white people with those surnames, which is a FACT, not a stereotype and in no way a negative statement. Are you implying that having those last names is inherently bad?

Grab any phone directory from a southern town or city and start dialing the Washingtons, Jeffersons, Lincolns, and Marsalis'. You give me $10 for every black peron who answers and I'll give you $10 for every white person who answers. PLEASE, take that offer. Daddy needs his swimming pool fixed.

I once had a conversation with someone at work who once sat at an awards banquet where she and her husband were the only Anglos (a the table) and the rest were Chinese (or Korean). Everyone introduced themselves and all the Chinese had the last name of 'Lee'. When the Anglos introduced themselves as so and so Lee as well, the Chinese got all huffy, because they thought that they were being mocked.
