...and here in CA, the ubiquitous taco salad.

LOL! In Texas, potlucks run the gamut from taco salad to jello salads, to cold pea salads, etc.

Invitations sometimes suggest a "theme" so that everyone can shoot for a general, similar topic but most people ignore the hints and bring their favs anyway!

I almost wonder if there's something we're not hearing.

I'm way behind on this thread so perhaps I should go to the end and read backwards but your post regarding prep and listening to the news after each burning really jumped out at me.

These are not your ordinary deer-hunting, theater students...LOL! They had to plan and premeditation takes the legal ramifications up quite a few notches.

2004 Election violence was the most under reported story of the year. The DNC brownshirts will only be bolder next time. Anything to win.

Uggg, weegee....that is so dispiriting. Time to place copies of the Serenity Prayer all over the house for extra support through the 2006 and 2008 elections.

We will see....but I am far more skeptical than you. It is pretty clear these kids were Satanists and that they didn't (contrary to the prosecuters) travel all the way to Bibb county to burn buildings for the sake of burning buildings. They burned churches. Yet, we are already seeing this downplayed and instead they are being portrayed as simple pyromananiacs. Why? Could it be that the political establishment in this state doesn't want elite colleges, like Bimirmingham Southern get a reputation for turning out Satanists? This is beginning to smell awful funny.

If the eyes are the mirror of the soul, his look "flat."

Of course, a mugshot could do that under the best and most innocent of circumstances.

How utterly ... unsurprising ... that these idiots should be "satanists." Looks like my "goth" suspicions are a lot closer to being confirmed.

"Believe me, this has not been explained AT ALL to my satisfaction."

I think we need to be a little patient and let the information develop. It's still early days.

Hoover is mostly white with pockets of Mexicans and blacks. Not as rich as Mountain brook, but it has some nice areas. Bart Starr lives in Hoover.

Thanks for posting info on demographics and such, Full Court.

I'm not connecting this story to the Natalee Holloway story, but just trying to "get a lay of the land." The Mountain brook that you mentioned...do you know if that is the same area where the Holloways lived.

Again, not connecting the two crimes but you seem to know the areas pretty well. TIA!

BTW, it is illegal to spotlight deer in Alabama regardless if one has a gun in the vehicle or not.

“This is not a hate crime,” Adams said. “They were excited by the fact there were fires.”

I'm waiting for the play..."Young Pyros in Love."

Yes, I do believe Natalee Holloway was from Mountain Brook - it's a very nice area.

...There are about 100 Fortune familiesin the U.S....

I thought there were 500...sorry, I was channeling Jessica Simpson.

Genealogy is so interesting, whether mine or others. I don't believe I've seen the name "Fortune" before. Wonder what the origins are...

...and put him in the fireplace.

In acting, you can draw from your real life experiences; maybe in their real life experiences, they drew from their acting.

Only partially kidding! I'm not drawing the specific play to the burnings; just seeing the "and put him in the fireplace" phrase triggered something in the back of my mind.

Humor me, please; I have pleurisy (with requisite slight fever) and I'm so dang tired of it, I'll say almost anything!
