It's a sort of interesting place. It's nestled right smack down in the middle of one of the worst neighborhoods in Birmingham as far as drugs, and gang violence goes.

Well, first of all, the're *theatre* majors - not theater majors - so there's no telling with that crowd - just trying to fit in and be accepted.

I once had a conversation with someone at work who once sat at an awards banquet where she and her husband were the only Anglos (a the table) and the rest were Chinese (or Korean). Everyone introduced themselves and all the Chinese had the last name of 'Lee'. When the Anglos introduced themselves as so and so Lee as well, the Chinese got all huffy, because they thought that they were being mocked.

LOL. Ironically, where I live in the South, Lee is a pretty common surname for Anglos. More Anglo Lees than Chinese, I'd bet. I'm betting that's not the case in, say, California. What I didn't get a chance to tell MM was that I'm sure these surname things are pretty regional. Lots of German-type surnames down here as well.

Why is that?

Because I'm curious as to what prompted the speculation in the first place.

Don't let the church affiliation fool you. BSC is LIBERAL!

That means they will plea bargain for a lesser charge. I'm sure that 3rd degree arson is still a felony. Then of course, they may get off easy by pleading guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief. Wouldn't surprise me.

How funny. That's almost exactly like "Overnight Salad" except upside down! Interesting that the dressing is on the bottom.

In the overnight one, the point is to spread the mayonnaise completely over the salad ingredients, touching all sides of the bowl to seal it in. That way, the lettuce never browns and it can stay in the fridge a couple of days, if need be, until time to take it wherever, toss it and serve.

It's layered with lettuce on bottom, then cut-up pieces of broccoli and cauliflower; then green onions, then pieces of crumbled crisp bacon, then green peas; then 1 cup of shredded or grated Parmesan; then mayonnaise over all, sealed to the edges. Sounds simple; tastes wonderful after tossing.

I don't know much about federal prosecutions, so can't speculate on that.

Here's a little more about the "pranksters" in an AP story that I guess I can't excerpt:

Gay, liberal students aggrieved over Baptists' stand on homosexuality, next "Oprah".

The bidding has probably already started: Geraldo, Greta, O'Reilly, Couric et al, and, of course, as you posted..."The Oprah."

I just think this whole thing is bizarre. Two theater guys from BSC are about the last people I would have guessed to be behind this. My sister went to BSC for a while; beautiful campus, but very, very liberal. Did they just enjoy setting fires or was it the fact that a church was burning that got them excited? Deer hunting, boozing, and theater majors just don't seem to mesh, but who knows.

It is a head-scratcher, for sure. Here's another story on the press conference itself this afternoon, with comments by a fellow theater student who "just went" to the press conference (they have a groupie, it seems).

The AP story says they "could get" 5 years for EACH of the 9 fires = 45 years possible.
