Frankly, I think they should be thankful that ham was the worst thing being thrown in their food. If it was me doing the throwing, I'd be tempted to add some ingredients that may have already experienced various phases of the digestive process.
I agree, why waste perfectly good ham? Do a little "processing" first :-)
