If this is true I suspect that eating pork is more widespread in the Muslim world than is commonly known.

I went to work for a Jewish man in 1970. We made a business trip together, and at breakfast, he ordered bacon and eggs. I was incredulous, but he assured me he could still be a Jew, and eat pig meat.

He was a member of a reformed synagogue... and of course liked oysters and shrimp, as well! He was later elected the City mayor, and President of his synagogue! He is resting in peace, these days. I hope he listened to my Christian witness!

Years ago my in-laws had a big family dinner to which an Iranian muslim was invited - college friend of one of the kids. Unaware of the dietary restrictions, they served ham. He quietly and politely took a small slice when it was offered and ate it.

Some time later when asked about it, he said it was more important to the spirit of his religion to not embarrass or insult his hosts than to blindly follow dietary restrictions.

Wonder if that sentiment is obsolete or just rare.

I have witnessed that very same thing. He called it the "other white meat" or just blessed as chicken.
