A long time ago I went to North Salem to view the megalithic ruins. What these stones are is a mystery, but they might have been Phoenician about 1000 BC.
What gives me a good laugh is how "Mystery Hill" is often waved off as a colonial structure, or (often) root cellar. The whole knoll is covered with low stone walls which don't appear to have been built for protection, and weren't useful for confining animals. Also, a Pennsylvania univ got radiocarbon results from an old hearth inside the structure of 4000 years BP.
