Thats very true. No matter what you do you will always have poor people. If you were able to magically raise the lowest paid person in the country to $60,000.00 per year with no inflation there still would be poor people comparatively to that of say a rich person who makes $10 million a year. We are all poor compared to someone else.

Now the bible dose say we should look out for our neighbors, make sure they can provide for themselves (note not provide for them. Unless they simply can not say they are disabled or something like that). If we want to help make the world safe, democratic, and free then we need to help eliminate unnecessary human suffering by assisting those that wish to help themselves. Otherwise you are just wasting your time. You cant force someone to be self sufficient. But you also should not enable them by providing them financial assistance to further there addiction to sloth.

If we had a per capita income of a million bucks a year, we'd still have people who sleep in cardboard boxes under freeway overpasses. Sometimes poverty is a lifestyle choice.
