Read about it here on FR but am hopelessly inept at searching out articles.
I was in the 5th Combat Comm at the time. We were working the remnants of Somalia at the time and had to participate in the evacuations of folks out of Rwanda.
Shameful and humiliating...what the so-called leaders in the day did by giving hope and then deciding it was too tough.
This weekend I heard President Ford's son speaking on CSPAN.
He said that it was the media influence that resulted in the Rwanda disaster.
He stated that the media promoting the pictures of the Rangers being dragged thru the streets of Mogadishu caused the American people to demand we immediately pull out of Somalia.....which X42 did.
Rwanda followed and the administration was afraid that the American people would not support any involvement by our troops.
This was Ford's son's assessment of the harm that the media can do with what they choose to focus on.
