My understanding is that he and Andy have been close friends ever since they met. Surely Andy will have a press release on this very soon.

In the first few seasons, they only had a handful of "bad guys" - the same ones over and over. The main one was the blonde guy that played Sgt. Bilko's friend, I think Zimmerman, but might have that wrong.

A life time of making people laugh....without using profanity.
Thank you Barney.

The funniest bit I think he ever did was with Tim Conway in "The Cannonball Run II" when they played CHP officers and thought they were on "Candid Camera".

This is so sad -- and strange. I was at a conference out of town this weekend, and met a woman from North Carolina, who lives in the town "Mount Pilot" was based on in the Andy Griffith Show:

Town of Pilot Mountain, NC

Also, not long ago I found myself driving on a street called "Don Knotts Blvd" in WV!

I loved the Andy Griffith Show. I still watch it when it's on.

And, Don Knotts was so terrific. My favorite episode was when Barney Fife overzealously locked up all the local women in the jail when Andy left him in charge one weekend. I think they were blocking traffic or something minor like that. But, all locked up under Deputy Sherriff Barney Fife!!!

Rest in peace...and thanks for all the laughs!

I loved Barney on TAGS. I always thought that character was a bit of a ladies man - the way he juggled Thelma Lou and Juanita.

My favorite episode was the one about the new girl comes to town, seduces Barney and claims that he proposed to her. Then she threatens to sue him for breach of promise and it turns out to be a big con job from the beginning.

Mr. Knotts you were truly one of a kind. May you rest in peace.

As Barney said to Aunt Bea in the Medicine Man episode, "We all have to go sometime."

Yep, good ole Luther Haigs (sp?). Got this one on video.
"Let me clarify this, thank you for having me".

A terrible loss, indeed.
A dying breed of true comedy talent.

He will be missed :<

There's a likeness of Don on this page for Mount Airy, I think, Andy's hometown originally.

Oh, Mr McBeeBee was just on in the last couple of weeks - I almost mentioned that one. The man in the silver helmet that walks in the treetops and gave Opie an axe. Ha, Barney was the only one who believed Opie!

What a great pic. Ya know, when I heard he was dead I thought a bit about the movie I liked him in the most, That Apple Dumping Gang! He was a great guy, and made me laugh lots when I was a young girl!

Does anyone remember the Steve Allen show from the early days of television, starring:

Steve Allen
Tom Poston
Don Knotts
Carl Reiner

I saw Carl Reiner just the other night on Craig Ferguson. Steve Allen I know has passed on, and now Don Knotts, a true TV pioneer. I haven't seen or heard Tom Poston in a long time, but it appears he is still around.

My sincere sympathy to the Knotts family. A comic legend has passed.

You know he and Suzanne Pleshette (remember her especially as Newhart's wife) married fairly recently.

I remember the first time I saw him in "No Time For Sergeants" with Andy Griffith of course.

My straight-laced granddad rarely laughed - unless it was at this man. "No Time For Sergeants" still rocks.
