Funny how the media and FEC care about Republicans who don't do everything to the letter. Democrat operatives who are as crooked as Al Capone get a nod and a wink.

You, for example, may give $2,000 to any candidate you choose. It is illegal for you to receive an favors in return.

Like sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom...at a cost of $100,000?

Welcome to Free Republic.

He laundered money through his employees. If my company were hoping to build a government-funded plant in CD x, I would donate to the congressman in CD x. It's also not clear that he got to talk to her because he was a big donor. She certainly knew that he gave the max ($2000). That plus the fact that he wanted to do public works in her district would have been enough for a single meeting.

"Redress of grievances" might be an antique phrase, but the Constitution keeps it in use.

Deny knowledge, immediately return it, and move on.

Deny knowledge, immediately return it, blame "the system", accuse the Republicans, charge racism, blame "the corporations", move on.

It should be noted:

Senator Bill Nelson received at least $20,168 from Abramoff clients.

That's significantly more than most Senators, but not up into Dorgan/Kerry/Reid territory, admittedly.

Amen to that . Nelson must be defeated . Nelson makes Algore look lively and intelligent , I thought that was an impossible task . If you've ever heard the non-sensical and Forrest Gump-like meanderings of Nelson you know what I'm talking about .

HARRIS FOR SENATE !

So if I donate $2k to a candidate because he's pro-life, then he votes for the PBA ban, that's illegal?

Of course not.

For it to be illegal you have to prove that a candidate voted a certain way because of campaign donations or the promise thereof.

The trouble that Mrs. Harris has is that FL women do not like her -- maybe it's envy?

Democrat women maybe . The more that people compare Harris to Nelson , the more people will come to realize that Harris is a much more qualified and far more intelligent choice .

KH is not the person that can beat Nelson.

Sure she can. But at least now we know why you posted this article.

Wade says that he personally delivered the checks, implying that it was obvious his company was the source of the donations.

Not proven to be true at this point, but the accusation is hanging out there.

"His solution was to have his employees and their spouses make contributions ... under their own names, then reimburse them - a technique known as 'straw contributions' that is a felony under federal election law."

In a news conference announcing Wade's plea, Wainstein added, "Wade personally handed a number of those checks to each representative, followed by the inevitable request that that representative seek appropriations funding that would benefit MZM

I mean, really, are there any kinds of donations that ARE legal?!
Just government hand outs.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Being so literal must be a pain.

Exactly. Except that Democrats are apparently exempt.

Harris chances of winning the senate seat in Florida have been always weak. Jeb Bush should be running because he has an 80% chance of winning that seat and have a Republican gain in the Senate. When is the deadline to file for Florida Senate seat? Has this deadline already passed?
