In the Second World War, it took us four years after Pearl Harbor to mobilze, move an army across the Atlantic, launch an amphibious assault into Europe, and slug our way through the Germans from Cherbourg to Czechoslovakia, while at the same time driving the Japanese all the way across the Pacific and then nuking them into unconditional surrender. Four years - that's all it took.

The war on terror is more than four years old, and as far as I can tell we're nowhere close to the end yet.
