Just for information sake:

"In my view, the President is paying off political debts to Arabs with checks our rear ends are going to pay for."

Actually DP World won the contract, they were given nothing by the President.

"Does the UAE allow bibles in country? Can Christians freely worship there?"

Yes and yes, it is openly supported and encouraged.

Has the UAE sent troops to fight in 'Stan or 'Raq?"

The UAE has uniformed troops in both places and is also actively involved in helping us train the Iraqi police force.

If this was February 2002, instead of February 2006, this deal would not have been approved. Period. And since little has changed since February 2002, this deal should be DOA!

I couldn't help but chuckle at your post; not in a mocking way but in how dead on it is.

Approve it.....there is the probability that we
would be safer, than an alternative, since these
people would work harder on it to prove they are
seriously with our goals. I don't think there is
any surefire proof of the voluminous port materials
being 100% SAFE..no matter who takes over.. Jake

Supported it from the start ... I was a little surprised at the vehemence and the volume of the initial opposition to it here on FR, though opinion has now come around to a majority in support.

In contrast, when Bush nominated Harriet Miers (which I opposed from the start) it seems the support on FR was widespread and those opposed were pilloried, but gradually turned against, as her unsuitability for the position became more obvious.

I thought the two events were interesting contrasts here on FR ...

Actually DP World won the contract, they were given nothing by the President.

That would seem somewhat obvious in light of all the reports that the Pres. didn't know anything about this (nor did Chertoff, DoD, etc, etc...) until well after the deal was approved.

I'm even beginning to question just how rushed this whole process was. Everyone agrees that it was just recently completed, but Schumer and crowd are claiming it was rushed through in 30 days...but in other places say the process started in November of last year.

???

Would be a lot like turning over border security to Al Qaeda and air traffic control to Osama.

They will not be handling port security.

Oppose, but am open after hearing some significant specifics about the deal. First of all, what exactly and most specifically are the duties of those that would be under the direct employ of DPW?

i.e., Someone might have to walk us through a typical day/week/month of their employees

Until that question is answered, there is an enormous gray area here that leaves far too much to chance.

So, who the hell is Jonathon Moseley? I see he can make an "official" sounding website, but I don't see his professional credentials anywhere.

Is he by any chance the author Jonathon Moseley that wrote 'Cold Peace'? If so, then all we know about him is that he knows how to write fiction.

I totally disagree with your reasoning. Everything I've witnesses from these Muslim jihadists and Islamofascists over the last 35 years indicates a supreme desire to sacrifice their own lives in the name of Allah. They don't care about humanity, mankind or civilization. Unlike the average American, people from the ME are not rational, levelheaded folks. Outside of Israel, half of all people in the ME hate America and everything we stand for. The other half aren't too thrilled with us either. Especially since we decided, enough was enough and it was time to lay down the law. Not much has changed since 9-11. The world remains a very dangerous place, with even more people who want death to Americans then ever before.

"So, who the hell is Jonathon Moseley?"

Someone you can pay to come on your show and say what you what him to say. Most shows maintain an extensive list of available "for hire experts".

You really don't want to keep this up on a thread that JimRob started, do you, Flux?

You lied about me, mocked me on a previous thread, with no regard to facts of any kind. I didn't hit abuse, even though I could have.

Please don't do the same thing here.

I have discussed this port issue seriously with many people who can verify that I discuss issues with serious people, and can verify that I was not supportive of this deal at first.

I'm going to ask you one more time. Don't do this. Don't accuse me falsely again.

Whatever Schmucky says is immediately suspect. His frothing at the mouth was one of the first things I encountered regarding this story and that is what caused me to sit back and listen to multiple sources before forming an opinion.

I don't know how long this vetting process actually took but I have heard, among the many and varied reports, that eleven agencies were involved in it. What all they were I don't know.

Here's something else to contemplate regarding Schumer and this little staged even. What was the issue that caused him to angrily come out and attack the President on?

Allowing an Arab firm to be become the owners of a company that employees his union members (a firm that will not be running any U.S. port).

Now, consider this. His port already has another similar facility managed by an Arab firm. They received that contract on his watch and he didn't oppose it then...and he fails to mention it now when he's making these accusations against the President.

It sure appears Schumer is far less concerned about who runs the business then he is in trying to undermine the President.
