Prosecutor's office refuses to rehabilitate Russian royal family

Moscow, February 21, Interfax - The Russian Prosecutor's Office has refused to recognize last Russian tsar Nicholas II and his family, killed by a Bolshevik firing squad in 1918, as victims of political repression, citing a lack of evidence. It also refused to rehabilitate the royal family.

Late in 2005, Grand Duchess Maria, who claims to head what is known as the Romanov imperial house of Russia, asked the Prosecutor General's Office to recognize Nicholas and his family as victims of political repression and to restore the family.

"There is no authentic evidence of the existence of any official decisions by judiciary or non-judiciary authorities that politically motivated repression was exercised against [Nicholas and his family], evidence that is required by current rehabilitation legislation. This prevents us from recognizing [the royal family] as victims of political repression and from issuing a decision on their rehabilitation," the Prosecutor General's Office said in a letter.

"The circumstances of the death of former Russian Emperor Nicholas II, the members of his family and persons from their entourage were carefully studied in the course of an investigation carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation," the letter said.

I have read Nicholas and Alexandra, as well as Massie's later book on the forensics involved when the remains of the family were discovered.
I don't find an indecisive or unresolved person "nice"; I find him a coward who is willing to be swayed by evil rather than have his boat rocked. An enabler of bad behavior is just as at fault as the person who commits the crimes.

Same here Royalcello and Palestrina. What the book showed me the most is that he allowed his wife to be too influential and by default Rasputin wrecked the monarchy and country. Alexandra wasn't exactly suited to the very social role of Tsarina as well. Nicholas was too weak in dealing with his wife; as for their attempt to escape, it was largely due to anti-German sentiments during the first World War that prevented the King of England from allowing the Russian royal family in.

Tsar Nicholas did not refuse to go into exile. He hoped to go to England and take his family with him. The British refused to accept him and he and his family were taken prisoner and sent to the Ipatiev(sp?) house in Ekaterinberg where they were eventually murdered in cold blood by the communists.

My ancestors lived in Russia at the time. They were supporters of the Tsar and saw the inherent evil that was the Bolsheveiks. There homes were taken over by the Bolsheviks and they were forced to live in one room of the house. Some of them starved during the blockade. My ancestors fought with the White Army and my Great Grandfather (on my Dad's side) was martyred when he was murdered by the Red army for being an Orthodox preist.

My relatives that were killed or starved to death under the Bolshevieks are the Russian people you write of...and they were in full support of Tsar Nicholas II.

I know this is very late in posting here but since this subject popped up again in another thread and a link to this thread was there, I'll reply anyhoo.

I'm also into studying Russian/Soviet history as well as being a fan of the Russian Royal Family. My family has had history in the Russian Revolution too, unfortunately, they were for the Communists. I'm trying like heck to verify this, but according to family history, my great, great grandfather was a Red Army general, he worked under Lenin as the story goes. He told his son to get out and go to America, he had enough sense for that and actually, my great grandfather fought in our (U.S.) Army in World War I. He married a Russian Jew, she suffered under the pogroms in Russia so I have suffering in my family too.

Nicholas II and his family did not deserve to die, it is a criminal act in my eyes. If I was around then, I would have been fighting against my great, great grandfather, I guess like the U.S. Civil War, you had cases of families fighting each other, brother against brother, sister against sister and all that. Heck, there are times I wish I could take a few of my buddies, a huge Sikorsky "Jolly Green Giant" helicopter or a load of Hummers or Escalades and save the Royal Family. B-) I'd go apesh** on their Communist guards, especially their leader. I wish the Communists lost, it would have saved a world a lot of hurt.

Nicholas II, I believe was a good man, sometimes a bit indecisive, maybe he was that way with all the things going on, the 1905 war with Japan was a mistake, maybe if that had not happened, things could have been different. Also, his son had hemophilia, that was a big thing that ate on his mind for sure.

As to the daughters, I'll be honest, they were drop dead gorgeous, Maria and Olga were my favs, but I would have been honored to have any of them on my arm.

It was so dang wrong what happened to them. If I was there either by magic or technical means, I would not want to harm my great, great grandfather but if it came down to it, the more important thing is "to do the right thing," and if it means fighting against him and saving the Royal Families lives and beating the Communists, I would do so. Reading what happened makes me very sad. It is like in today's world, we are seeing liberals who are so entrenched in their beliefs where they would do the same to us if they could.

Although I'm a believer that only the person himself or herself should answer to society and to God in the afterlife for any crimes and sin to where we are all individuals, if I ever could and my family's history is true, I would apologize for any wrongdoings my ancestors ever did.
