I'm confused. Wouldn't the moonbats want us to get away from Big Oil by using sustainable natural resources?
It's not oil that the enviro-whackos are against, it's freedom.
Ethanol is absolutely cleaner than gas for injectors. Studies, what studies? You mean the ones paid for by Exxon? There is no conflict except in your mind. Ask anybody that races alcohol engines if they leave deposits of ANY kind. ZERO, NADA, ZILCH! Maybe if they mixed Scotch in it you might get some scum somewhere, but not straight ethanol.
I still don't believe you drive a 15 year old car with a carb. That would be 1991 or newer. Maybe an Army Jeep or Postal van or something, but not one of the big 3. I drive a 91 GMC truck and they used FI since 1988. My 1976 VW camper had the fuel injected 2 liter in it.
Just as a test, take a jigger of ethanol and put it outside to evaporate with a jigger of gas. When they are both gone, rub your finger in the ethanol jigger first and then the gasoline jigger. The ethanol will be dry and clean and the gas will have scum. The ethanol will NOT hurt your engine, period! The only caveat is if you have a carb and the float and certain rubber types of hoses. The problems are easily fixed for a couple of bucks. You just have been brainwashed by the cult of the oil worshipers. I'm not against oil, I own stock in oil companies, I use petroleum every day, but to say no to all alternatives is just bull headed.
Oops. Thanks for poining out my error. I should have written that two of my cars are MORE than 15 years old. The newer of the two does have injectors. The older has a carb, and after the unfortunate Conoco experience, it did have fuel line issues. But who gets bent of of shape if a little gasoline gets sprayed around under the hood, right?
By the way, your comment about Styrofoam causing problems only for ethanol doesn't make much sense to me, since I saw as a pre teen what happened when I put gasoline in a Styrofoam cup.
Here are some info on engine wear: http://www.deh.gov.au/atmosphere/fuelquality/publications/biofuels-2004/engine.html and deposits: http://www.deh.gov.au/atmosphere/fuelquality/publications/review-vehicle-fleet/chapter5.html
here's an article I posted with some good information
