Respect religions, says Saudi king

RIYADH: King Abdullah on Saturday called for mutual respect among all religions and beliefs and condemned what he called “the clash of civilisations.” Speaking during a cultural festival in Riyadh, he said, “I call for the next stage in relations between countries to be a stage of real dialogue where each side respects the other side,” he was quoted as saying. ap

Dear King Abdullah,
I have a group of people who would like to build a Roman Catholic church in your country in time to hold our Easter services there this year. We would like to re-enact Christ's passion and death in downtown Riyadh. We know your people would love to witness this moving event. The church is a beautiful pre-fab building that can be assembled in time for Easter. Please let us know where we can obtain the proper permits for importation and construction. We are happy that you respect our religion and our right to worship in your country. We also plan to go door to door to introduce ourselves and our religion to all your people. Each of your citizens will receive a free Bible as a gift. We plan to set up classes for those who would like to convert to our religion. We also are in contact with Pope Bendict who would like to gather are your youth together for a mass and we would like to know a good location for this. We are highly enthusiastic about your respect for all religions. Some of our Jewish friends will also be contacting you about their plans for a synagogue.
Yours truly in Christ,
Right Wing Assault, USA.

The King sounds a little more liberal than his Dad.

I think he's just a great liar. But that's part of their show.

"Will there be churches in Saudi anytime soon? Didn't think so."

You hit the nail on the head....No churches, no respect for Jews or others....

No Arabs in the U.S.!

each side respects the other side,” he was quoted as saying

Okey-dokey, yer majesty, how about you go first by building a church in Mecca and a synagogue in Medina?

Please feel free to add to this list....

No Jews allowed to enter the country, not as foreign workers, not as tourists, not at all, period.

arabs have proved for centuries that their word isn't worth a pile of camel dung.

Until I see action in the middle east that they wish to peacefully co-exist with other religions, all their talk is absolutely worthless.

Just the fact that the Arabs still have kings tells you where they're coming from.

I agree.

He should allow missionaries in, and new Churches and Synagogues to be built in the spirit of 'mutual respect.'

Back in 1981, while at the U S Embassy in Jeddah, a new Budget and Fiscal Officer was assigned. Her husband was a retired U S Army Colonel, a JAG Officer. Normally, a man such as Bernie could've counted on landing a pretty good job as a lawyer for one of the many multi-nationals corporations in "The Magic Kingdom," for a pretty good salary. But Bernie was Jewish. He was tolerated because his wife was on the Diplomatic List. Bernie spent a lot of time hanging out at the Embassy pool.

Thanks, trek. Well, I lived there for awhile, and got a feeling for the place. I won't say it was the best time of my life by any means, but I did figure out a few things!
