Vowing to be "pro-business and pro-environment," Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Phil Angelides unveiled a five-point "Clean California" plan Thursday that seeks to reduce the state's gasoline and diesel usage by 25 percent over 10 years by changing the types of cars Californians drive and the way their communities grow. If elected governor, the state treasurer vowed to introduce legislation to mandate all new vehicles sold in the state be flexible fuel cars, capable of running on any mix of gasoline and bio-fuels, like ethanol.
He said he would also require major oil companies to supply bio-fuels at filling stations to match the number of flexible fuel vehicles on the road.
Angelides said he would require state and local governments to purchase vehicles that use alternative fuels, or to buy efficient vehicles, like hybrids, when replacing or expanding their fleet.

Remember the choice: Arnold or Angelides. I recommend serious thinking, before FReepers support Angelides against Arnold.
Riiight... "SMOG III" at $150 a pop fer everyone...
Woohoo, expect the price of all cars and fuels to skyrocket in liberal Californi.
This will be tough on the 'poor', putting the price of fuel efficient cars further out of their reach and keeping 'dirty' cars on the street even longer.
But, hey, that's just unintended consequences, they mean well!

I think car manufacturers may just stop selling cars in CA, it would be too expensive for them to make such cars, people wouldn't be able to afford them.
That would make the Dems very happy, californians should stop driving cars, let's just kill the economy, and sit and watch the whales.
Yeah, that will work.
No cars under $25,000 and no fuel at all under $10.
Go California!
God help us, if he gets elected!

I think the values of used cars just went up 50%.
Sorry. Geek detector went off upon being exposed to that picture. Got it stopped now.
VOTE THE COAST ENDORSES PHIL ANGELIDES FOR GOVERNOR
Vote the Coast, a statewide non-partisan grassroots organization committed to the protection of California coastal and ocean resources, today announced its support for State Treasurer Phil Angelides campaign for Governor.
Phil Angelides is not only the most knowledgeable on the issues affecting the coast but also is the most committed to its protection and preservation, said Vote the Coast Executive Director and Co-Founder Sara Wan. Given Schwarzeneggers record of broken promises with regards to coastal protection and the last few Governors' poor records as well, California's coast needs a champion. It is critical to elect Phil Angelides as Governor to replace the current Governor, and to restore and protect California's most valuable asset - our coast.
I am honored to receive Vote the Coasts endorsement, said Angelides. For generations, Californians from John Muir to Phil Burton have stood up in defense of our states natural wonders. As Governor, I will fight every day to protect Californias coastline, work hard to protect our forests and improve the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink. Protecting our environment will be at the top of my list of priorities.
but this guy's dumber than he looks !
He is even going to raid the pension funds to pay for it.
Well, is this the guy you want as our next governor?

State Treasurer and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides embodies the public's slow movement toward supporting full marriage rights for same-sex couples. Today, he is an advocate for marriage equality and has repeatedly said he would sign into law a gay marriage bill if he were governor.
COMPARE WITH:
BIG difference between "goals" and MANDATING things, as Angelides plans to do.
Sounds like the European model. Of course it will only work till the population implodes or the hispanics are in the majority.
If you cant afford a hybrid , you just stay home.
Californians should buy stock in Motor Scooters, It will look like Hong Kong if this guy gets elected/
