To paraphrase Chris Rock (on black athletes domination of American sports):
"If they make a heated hockey rink, we'll dominate that too"
Two relevant facts:
a) for some reason, not too many black people seem to be into winter sports. You don't see many (in relative numbers)blacks that are involved in sports with skates, sleds or skis. There have been a few over the years, but not many that I can recall.
b) if there are blacks involved in sports that involve skates, sleds and skis, then these are some particularly WEALTHY black folks, as these tend to be expensive sports with few facilities in the inner city (try to find a skating rink or a downhill slope in Bedford-Stuyvesanr, for example).
And, just for fun;
I would surmise that if there was a "Drive-By Biathalon", the Crips and Bloods would be perrennial medal contenders.
Get on with yer bad Oreo self, Bryant.

I don't think it is race as much as it is money. Skiing and figure skating are expensive sports requiring more equipment and/or individual coaching. Hockey is also more expensive than basketball, baseball or football. When you hear the touching personal stories of the athletes at the Winter Olympics, it sounds like most of them were raised in Upper or Middle Class homes.
