An unsuspecting viewer watching this morning's Today show would have thought that Fox News failed to disclose that in his interview by Brit Hume yesterday, VP Cheney acknowledged having a beer at lunch on the day of the shooting incident.
But when it comes to the MSM, it pays to be 'suspecting.'
Here's how NBC White House reporter Kelly O'Donnell artfully chose her words:
"The official White House transcript of the interview shows Cheney said 'I had a beer at lunch.' Fox News did not show that particular clip during Brit Hume's program."
Having watched the Hume/Cheney interview, I was jarred by O'Donnell's statement since I was certain that I had heard reference to the mid-day beer. And sure enough, the interview transcript confirms it:
Brit Hume:
"The Vice-President said he had one beer at lunch, but the afternoon hunt began a couple hours later."
So Hume and Fox News did indeed inform its viewers of the facts, but chose to have Hume report them rather than playing the Cheney clip. Yet the clear inference from the Today show story was that Fox News failed to disclose the lunch-time beer.
If anyone is hiding facts from viewers, it is NBC News and the Today show.
Actually, he was licensed. He just didn't have some new $7 stamp. And in TX, non-lethal hunting accidents don't have to be reported to the authorities. Cheney did anyway, right away. Does Joe Six-Pack do that?
The horror.

Once they take the alcohol angle as far as it will go..they will the have to resort to the longer term angle.
Cheney's pal is no spring chicken...if he doesn't die in the near future, he will die in the not-so near future.
When he does eventually die - there will be a new "scandal" as to the cause of death, and calls for the investigation of Cheny on manslaughter.
I enjoyed Mary M's facial expressions as Katie was reading her scripted questions.
Beer. Wine. Ammo.
Oh, MY WORD!!! The VP was DRUNK and wandering around with a loaded shotgun!! We are ALL doomed! VP Cheney MIGHT accidentally get hold of the football and press the launch button! ARREST him immediately!!!
Now...the next big question: Was Slick sniffing the white stuff BEFORE the "under the desk" episode or after? Was he snorting the white stuff before or after the cigar episode? Was he...oh, you get the picture.
How in the world "governs" manages to watch this crap and remain sane is beyond me.
"Seems to me there's a Texas law that says if there's a hunting accident committed by an unlicensed hunter, there are penalties just for that. Thirty to ninety days in jail I seem to remember. Oh well you can be sure somebody's checking on that right now. "
It is poossible that the maximum sentence for hunting w/o a license could involve jail time. BUT, my experience as a defense attorney shows a minor infraction would be a fine at most.
Presumption without proof ;-)

Ding! Ding! I think we may have a winner.
"Turkey Hunter"? Give me a break. It's my guess you have no clue about which end of a shotgun is the business end. If you're legit, please tell me where you "hunt" turkey, and what kind of gun you use.
Should be interesting.
You know.... I've not commented on this crazy thing. But a couple of things seem true. 1) he'd be in deep trouble if the guy had been killed. (even being an accident) 2) If he had been in Washington doing his job, or trying to figure out how to find Osama, or trying to figure out how to get the WMD's that went to Syria instead of being on a boondoogle none of this would have happened.
"Doesn't seem likely there would be manslaughter charges unless death occurs soon and by the wounds directly inflicted by Cheney. Initial reports were that Whittington was 'peppered' superficially but to get pellets near his heart is either pretty good penetration or some freak accident like getting one in a vein that carried it there. If it wasn't a freak accident and the wounds went much deeper than orignally reported, then the logical question is, was there an attempt to conceal evidence by minimizing the extent of the wounding? "
There can't be much of a coverup when no one knows what the truth is.
As far as I could tell, they weren't conducting extensive imaging of the heart until after the heart attack.
Make no mistake..it won't matter when this man dies.
When he does evenutally die - there will be stories about Cheney's responsibility.
In oklahoma.... if you're hunting without a license.... you can lose your truck that's parked there, your guns, and there is a STEEP fine. And depending on what you shoot and if it's in season or not.... the fine ramps up and it can include a period of time in the county jail.
