Oh really? Is that why the citizens of Texas can't afford to build their own highway system and have to ask the Spanish company Cintra to fund and run it? Is that why Arnold Schwarzenegger who hasn't spent one red cent filling some of the potholes on California freeways, is asking China to fund a "goods movement corridor" out of the LA basin? Is that why our water and utility systems are being sold off to foreign entities-- they say its because citizens and municipalities are broke and can't afford to keep them up. If we are making so much money, where is all the tax money they are collecting going?

Your post perfectly illustrates what I found so bizarre about the whole Buchananite vision for this country.

You cite a litany of government failures on the economic front as a justification for your plans to put the government in charge of the purchasing decisions of individual Americans.

The current system, as you note, is very imperfect. The answer is less government interference. Not more. Anybody who’s paying attention knows that.

You hit it squarely on the head.

As Mises pointed out, one government intervention in the economy always brings some unintended results, leaving planners with the choice of making further interventions or repealing prior ones.

They invariably choose further interventions.

The march toward tyranny continues.

I NEVER said this.

If the economy is humming along, why is there no money for our infrastructure? Remember DOMESTIC infrastructure is a legitimate government expenditure.

Boy did you ever hit the nail on the head with this one!!!

Hedgetrimmer insists she's a conservative, but her answers always involve more government interference.

Look at it this way: If the citizens of Texas can afford to hire a bunch of Spaniards to buld their superduper highway for them, that must mean they're doing pretty well. A hallmark of prosperity is to be able to spend your money the way you want, and hire somebody else to do your heavy work for you.

I don't know what this clown is talking about saying the governor hasn't spent a dime "filling potholes." I live in California and have been complaining about the amount of road construction going on. This idiot needs to check the amount of money Arnold has allocated to roads, and what's he's proposing moving forward, to find out how idiotic his comments are, to say nothing about the fact cities and municipalities in most areas of the country are flush with new revenues, but spending beyond their means.
