"The only ones who would have a problem with her are the closet racists and closet sexists who would not want to see a black woman in the White House."
What a bunch of baloney. This is the kind of cr*p we will have to fend off if and when Hillary runs, dont play into it. The ones *touting* Condi are doing it out a patronizing view of how neat it would be to have a black female GOP candidate. Great, a tokenism candidate. I am ignoring that and asking the more serious question of what views and policies will they push as President. I dont care that Hillary is a woman - I know she is a socialist and I will pick the male/female conservative over the male/female socialist any time. You dont know where Condi is on the issues and so to even advocate her is an act of shallowness.
Proof that this is tokenism: Imagine a white, male secty of State with the features and viewpoints of Condi ... would you be touting such a candidate? Do you want Brent Scowcrow for President? Think he is best for President? Why? Why not?
Condi's a black female protoge of Brent scowcroft, so tell me why she is better or more special as President than real politicians and conservatives like Rudy, Newt, George Allen or Mike Pence. Part of the reason Condi is wrong is that even her foreign policy perspective is IMHO not right for the GWOT. If you *pay attention* to her comments on the mid-east they are Scowcroft-like --- IMHO just plain wrong, way too "Arabist" for what we need in the GWOT. If she can get Iran to give up nukes, I might change my mind, but I dont see that happening - expect no miracles.
A "token" candidate? Where on earth does that come from?
If you want to know where Condi's views are - it's easy enough to find out. The woman has written several books and numerous articles. She has more foreign affairs experience than any of these Republican Governors - who have NONE!
I suggest you take a look at her biography and look at her resume. It's quite impressive and VERY heavy on foreign affairs.
Where do you come off saying that I "don't know where she is on the issues?" She has certainly given enough speeches and written enough to give a very clear idea of her views. What is "shallow" about that?
You claim that Condi is too "Arabist" to do any good with the War on Terror! Condi - "Iran and Syria have gone out of their way to inflame sentiments and to use this (Danish cartoons) to their own purposes - and the world ought to call them on it."
That doesn't sound very "arabist" to me!
I suggest you go to the website "Rice2008.com" and read through some of her interviews. If you still don't know what her views are - then you're not paying attention.
The litmus test for who would make a good President should not be where do they stand on abortion - but where do they stand on protecting our nation from terrorism. I believe Dr. Rice has made her intentions quite clear in that area.
My choice of Condi has nothing to do with race or sex. It has everything to do with:
a) who is strong enough to protect this country.
b) who can actually win an election.
Those too far on the right will never win the votes of the great "undecided". Condi could win those votes.
