For Possible '08 Run, McCain Is Courting Bush Loyalists
Washington Post ^ | February 12, 2006 | Dan Balz

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a man in perpetual motion, flew to South Carolina on Jan. 16. His stops included a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. and speeches to local Republican groups. But one of his most important events was not on the public schedule -- a 5 p.m. meeting at a Spartanburg hotel with loyalists to President Bush.

A dozen or so people were in attendance. At least two were among Bush's major national fundraisers. Virtually all had been on Bush's side in the bitter 2000 South Carolina primary that badly damaged McCain's chances of winning the presidential nomination and scarred the relationship between the two men and their rival political camps. McCain was there to woo them.

I wish I could think of one good democrat that is worth my vote.

They're all dead. But that's never been a problem for Democrats.

Why don't we comprise our own list instead of yapping constantly about the list the enemedia is pushing.

A name I never see on any list is Alan Keys, that surprises me,a great speaker and a great promoter of Conservative values.

Oh,I know why,he's,I hesitate to say it,a former U.N.Ambassador!

My John McCain (up close and personal) story, from the 2000 South Carolina Primary.

Greenville SC - the 2000 Presidential primary - John McCain had just beaten ‘W’ in the NH primary and the “Straight Talk Express” rolled into South Carolina.

I was a McCain supporter - positive that he was the real deal.

I drove to a McCain speech and public appearance. It was a day I will never forget as long as I live.

That day I witnessed John McCain behave unlike any appearance I had ever seen on TV - the man was unhinged.

After a 15 minute canned speech - he decided to address his competition in the primary - George W. Bush. He did so by beginning with, “I am Luke Skywalker, and my opponents are members of the Empire. Together we will form the rebellion and defeat Darth Vadar”. He yelled this - first pumping - his voice full of anger - his face - beet red - and his eyes - well - they were scary.

The crowd instantly went from supportive - to bewildered.

He obviously didn’t pick up on the mood change - because he went on for another 5 minutes - ranting and raving about how everyone was lying about his record - his views - and he, “wasn’t going to take it any more” (remember the movie Network).

It was surreal.

When he finished - and with the prodding of an aid - he left the stage, while we in the crowd just stood there - stunned - and honestly - completely confused.

I asked a woman next to me: “what the hell just happened?” She answered: “that man is freaking nuts!”

I came home - walked in the house - sat on the couch and just looked at the wall. I suddenly realized - the man pushed on television - was not the man at all.

I have told this story many times - to many people - and I have heard the same story told back to me by others who have seen similar John McCain episodes.

I am not given to criticize anyone lightly ladies and gentlemen.

I am sure John McCain is a good man - but listen to me - and please believe me.

JOHN MCCAIN is NOT FIT TO LEAD THIS NATION.

John McCain is unstable. John McCain is freaking nuts!

Same here.A man who traded info for hospital care because his father was "connected",while fellow POWS were enduring insufferable torture as a result of some of his actions.Good men who suffered the most hideous torture imaginable for keeping mum.I can not say for sure, but it is my guess he was treated a lot better than the rest.NO WAY.

If McCain somehow wins the Republican nomination I'll vote for him in the general election. His record on national defense, taxes, and government spending is pretty good and certainly better than any rat. I don't see anyway I would vote for him in the Republican primary and I don't think McCain can win in Republican primaries where rats are excluded from the vote.

If McPain ever defines his principles, we will see that he is a democrat.

The rest of America needs to see your post. The media is covering for him. They will only show the "war hero" side, they are hiding the rest.

I agree, I think the guy is actually nuts. If we elect him I think he'll be another Howard Dean. Let's hope he has his Dean moment before the tv cameras before the GOP convention.

LOL!!

Funny thing is....Dean and McCain act quite a bit alike in many ways.....Both are loons, just different sub-species.

McCain is just another poster boy for TERM LIMITS!!

Won't ever vote for him,no way,no how.

Not even against a DEM like Hillary or Kerry? Scorched earth doesn't work...any of the DEM frontrunners is a worse alternative to McPain. Our choice is often not the choice between the best and the worst. It is often the choice between bad and worse. McPain has pissed me off and will continue to do so but for the sake of our country, we cannot afford to have a DEM in the WH.

I promise to do my duty, to defeat any McCain presidential nomination.

I'm with you. However, if he gets the nomination and is running against Hillary in the general election he will not only get my support but also my money.

You would entrust our country to Hillary? You really think that it would be better for our nation that Hillary be in the WH then McPain?

McCain and Rudy should split the Liberal Republican (RINO) vote. THat should give a conservative a good chance -- unless we get 8 of those in the race.

In one poll on Fox they have Guiliani at 60% and McCain at 50% and that's on Fox news.
