It was fair commentary when she made it.

No it wasn't, it was a pure hit piece. The last sentence you quoted was the only one that cast she had any doubt that Roberts might not be a Souter. Coulter was 100% against Roberts.

It was a fair hit piece, too. He's not proven yet by any means. I hope Roberts is great--but we shouldn't have to hope.

In Coulter's article on Roberts ( SOUTER IN ROBERTS' CLOTHING), Coulter did the following:

Coulter said,  "Bush decided to disappoint all the groups"

She called Roberts a  "blank slate"

Ann compared Roberts credentials to those of  "Larry Flynt's attorney"

Ann said, "Stealth nominees have never turned out to be a pleasant surprise for conservatives. Never. Not ever."

Ann made an analogy of Roberts to Johnnie Cochran.

Ann said compared calling Roberts a conservative the equivalent of calling Souter a reliable conservative.

Ann equated Roberts to a "welfare queen".

Ann called Roberts nomination a "Rorschach blot"

I thought Ann was dead wrong when she made those attacks, and even believe more so today.  Roberts will prove to be a very good conservative justice in the mold of the man he replaced. One day very soon, Ann will have egg on her face for that article. It is getting very close to that day.
