Or who thought "let's pull his brain out through his nose with a crochet hook . . . ."
According to the MSNBC article you posted a link to, Zahi/Zowie is going to the tomb tomorrow.
The tomb may not have been meant for royalty, but neither was DB320, where most of the royal mummies turned up, and not all of the New Kingdom pharaohs are accounted for. Now I'm wondering if Ay or Horemheb got moved here.

...Oh ooops, never mind.
It appears that someone is p-d off by the pre-release:

"Officials were tight-lipped Thursday, a day after announcing the find. Calls to Hawass and other officials were not answered. American archaeologist Otto Schaden, who headed the team that uncovered the site, declined to answer any questions when contacted by reporters."

I wonder if he knows that the intro is a joke (or is it?)
Yeah, that's a big problem for Zowie. Some years ago when the Upuaut robot go cart probed those shafts in the Great Pyramid, the German builder made a press release; he was banned from further research in Egypt, just like that. A different team did the same thing, but this time under strict control of Hawass. Even the DVD releases of older National Geographic specials (shows which predate Hawass' tenure) have supplemental material that features Hawass.
I think NG should include prints of the cartoons in every package, as a sort of balance.
It's atrocious (as well as out of date), and this is the most atrocious of all:

Committee Appointed to Assess Palestinian Monuments
Ministry of Culture
Supreme Council of Antiquities
Secretary General Office
Farouk Hosni, The Minister of Cultural and Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities announced today, April 9, 2002 that Egypt asked UNESCO to create a committee to go to Palestine and find out the current situation of the Islamic and Christian monuments. Dr. Mohammed Abdel Maqsoud will attend this meeting. He is meeting now with the Culture Committee of UNESCO in Paris, with the other Arab countries to explain this atrocious attack against the Palestinian monuments. It is very important to protect the Palestinian Heritage from the destruction of Israel. UNESCO agreed that Egypt, South Africa, Palestine and Hungary can formulate a report that explains and lists the damage that Israel is inflicting on the monuments.
Lara Croft, call your office!
Thanks for the ping.
I'm going along with the theory that the mummies were moved fron another location.
I say they died of a very contagious disease.
Yep. Bears repeating, too.
I'm not sure how the 18th dynasty fits in with Moses: The 10th plague? (slaying of the firstborn).
Still, I hope they take precautions against any surviving pathogens.
Bump for later
also in speaking with my jewish isreali friends, it is taught as fact that hatshepsut found moses in the river...
Wow. Thanks for the link!
