Scranton has dropped out of the gubernatorial race, making Lynn Swann a virtual lock for the endorsement, without a primary.

No link just yet, it was breaking news on the TV broadcast.

On the flip side, it lets the Dims get the destruction machine fired up quickly...

Attacking Lynn Swann will backfire on Rendell.

I've been away from PA for a long time though....it always had closed primaries. Perhaps what is meant is "no endorsement?"

You are correct. There is no cross party voting in PA primaries.

WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh) says Swann had the votes for the nomination locked up and when Scranton realized this, he backed out (in advance of Saturday's vote).

True, but what else do they have? Rendell's best bet is to let his buds in the media do his dirty work and start looking for things in Swann's past to trump up into "scandals." But I just don't see him laying back like that - I don't think he can. The Dims and their media and union cronies enjoy destroying their opponents too much to just give it up, even when there's undeniable proof that their character assassination is killing them politically.

Swannee was at the Steeler rally today and got a very big welcome. He will ride the Steeler victory to a victory of his own.

Woo hoo!

I guess for Scranton it was drop out or keep making stupid comments he'd have to retract. Go, Swanny!

Well, I doubt the NFL commentators will constantly mention Lynn Swanne to keep the correlation fresh in the mind of Joe Football viewer. This temptation to think that the Steelers win will somehow cut into Rendell's advantage in either Philly or Pittsburg is nothing more than wishful thinking. Rendell will still come out of Philly with a 300,000 to 400,000 vote advantage over Swann (who has yet to actually articulate actual policies, btw - Rendell will wipe the floor with him in the future debates.)

Good grief. You have a pretty low opinion of "Joe Football," and if you don't think Swann will have an advantage in Pittsburgh, you must be a bitter Bill Scranton man. As for debates, Rendell is just not likeable or pleasant to see or hear. He also has four years of . . . what? Anything? How can he defend Pennsylvania's poor performance in attracting business?

Wipe the floor with him? That's absurd.

I have no stake in either Scranton, Swann or Rendell. As much as I think Rendell is scum (and have told him so to his face), he is still a veteran campaigner and debater. Swann, after a year and a half of trying to decide whether or not to run, has yet to actually articulate a series of issues or programs to run on. His only campaign theme so far is "At least I'm not Ed Rendell, and oh, by the way, I'm black." Until he gets an actual agenda and can articulately explain it, I won't hold my breath hoping for a Governor Swann.

Pa. Republicans are enthused because, after Mike Fisher, even a corpse would generate more excitement. They have visions of him swinging the black vote to Republicans, but that isn't based on any actual evidence or polling data that I've ever seen, so it falls into the category of wishful thinking.

My pleasure! It sure will be fun to watch, Fast Eddie is squirming already. Or should be. ;-)

Now, if some Republican competition could win and just keep Jimmah Carter's son out of the Nevada senate, well, that would be extra nice.

That's bullshit. He's pro-life and he intends to work on attracting jobs by cutting business taxes.

Swann doesn't need to swing the black vote, only a slice of the black vote. Same with the Pittsburgh vote: he doesn't need to win it, just a margin of it.

I just went to Swann's website. Although he doesn't have a
lot of particulars, he is starting to stake out some positions. He is Pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment. That was
enough for me to enlist as a volunteer.
